August 07 - A ‘big one’ from France.
The Big Issue

It appears that everything has to be big these days. Bigger reels, bigger rods, bigger bivvies (have you seen VentureCarp’s Cassien 2-Man? You can park a Mini Cooper in there) and of course, bigger carp.
There’s obviously a knack to pulling out the bigger ones – and just like you, we wanted to know how it’s done, hence why we’ve commissioned Keith Sykes to explain why the likes of Hearn, Sharp and Bank’s catch “just the big ’uns” on page 76. Having taken the big and bold step of trying to understand why these anglers are so gifted, we then go in touch with Essex underground angler, Kenny Dorset (P47) (our first CARPology Legend) to discuss big fish waters and big fish bait.
Just to complete this Big Issue theme, we roped in Damian Clarke, Ali Hamidi and Joe Morgan in The Rotary Letter (P63), read how James Parry (P82) caught a rarely banked fifty-pound mirror and where the future of big carp lays in this country (P57).       Finally, check out Technical Know-How! (P28), Fly Fishing For Carp! (P22) and the second part of Simon Scott’s Up The Shelf (P40) and you’ve got what our corner flash on the cover says: “The Complete Carper’s Bible!” Enjoy the issue.

Attended the Isle of Wight Festival. Bizarrely met Tim Oakley from Rookley Park fame near the urinals and then spotted someone wearing a CARPology Camo T-Shirt. Mental.

Our good buddy, Pete Broxup sadly passed about this month. The man was a legend who will be sadly missed. Go easy, mate.

Out in some “trendy” bar in Swindon and who should pop-up on the 38-inch plasma – none other than Danny Fairbrass and Keith Arfur. Loved the pink ‘top two buttons undone’ shirt, Fairbrass!

Congratulated Bob Baker on his eighty-plus-pounder. At the moment: amazing. The aftermath: We guess three 4hr sessions at the osteopaths.
