“Why can’t you just do honest reviews?” That’s the question you’ve been asking and that’s the question we’ve been debating down the pub while we were supposed to be working on our new-look website which will finally be up and running next month. Ish. You’re bored of the same replies and we’re bored of hearing the question – so hence why for twenty-ten we decided to launch the ‘Advanced Reviews For 2010’ programme – editorial pieces that wouldn’t just focus on us giving the usual unavoidable journalist clichés: “this is brilliant” type reviews, but instead focus on giving actually scientific proof to which produce is best.
For example: last month we used our expensive heat-seeking camera to see which winter coat retained the heat best and the month before that we used it on sleeping bags. For March we decided to turn our attention to hooks and used a microscope/digital camera to see which points are the sharpest. The results (along with a load of technical jargon) start on page 109.
And it doesn’t stop there either. We also now call upon your services, getting you, the reader, to review products (page 124), and if you want to take part, it couldn’t be easier. Simply send your name, address and a few details about yourself to: editorial@carpology.net and we’ll add you to the ever-growing list of volunteer reviewers.
As you scower through the issue you’ll see there’s no Hall of Fame. Just like our reviews section, this is currently in the shop for its own upgrade, but this month in Carp Fuel you can still find out about criticals thanks to Bayesy on page 92, who’s caught what in Nutrabaits News (P96), but more importantly, which is more attractive: boiled food or paste – all of which is revealed in our new-look/new-style Tank Tests, which start on page 88.
As always, let us know what you think to the new bits… Enjoy the issue.

Hunted through our archive of snaps to find a suitable one for this month’s Lee Jackson Q&A. It was this or the famous Two-Tone-in-the-mist shot. This won hands down – come on, he’s wearing a safari shirt! Page 70.
“Dear Santa: thanks.” We have a double fitty…
Continued our ‘Advanced Reviews For 2010’ programme by properly testing hooks. The results (you’ll love this one) are on page 109.
Geez tried to smash a record whilst out in Canada; it was phenomenal… Page 56.
