10 things to do on your next session to avoid a blank

1 Keep in-tune
Tune into what has been going on at the lake. A little knowledge before you get there always helps.
2 Go for a walk
Make sure you have a quick walk round, even if it’s late when you get there. You never know what you will find.
3 Look after your points
Check your hook points from last session. They may have been blunted in transit.
4 Is it the right rig?
Think whether the rigs you used last time out are the right ones for this session….if not, change
5 Look at the water clarity...
Have a look at the colour of the water and think about how that effects your bait choice. Coloured water = smelly baits.
6 Go light...
Keep the bait to a minimum at the moment. Bags sticks and singles are brilliant tactics at this time of year. It’s amazing how many you catch on them.
7 Recast - regularly...
Regularly Re-cast – how many times have you heard people say “It’s only been in there 10 minutes”. Sitting behind static rods for long periods is boring.
8 Opportunist angling
Always cast at a moving fish. If you see one, put a bait on it. Opportunist angling is both exciting and very very productive. Singles or tiny sticks are the best for this.
9 Line lay
Choose your line lay wisely. Semi slack is a great cold water compromise. Bow strings can spook ‘em in clear water, slack gives terrible indication unless your close
10 Mini Zig Rigs
Unless your bagging up, try a zig just off the bottom 18 inches to 2 foot. With a bright 10mm pop up and a small hook. Deadly when the going gets tough. .
