16 items of tackle to buy this month

New gadgets and gizmos to spend this month’s rent/mortgage on!

1. Fortis Minimal T-Shirt

Along with bright pop-ups, floater kit and fresh line, there are certain essentials every man needs for spring and summer, and on-the-button brand Fortis have come up with two of them: sunnies (more on those next time) and this: their new drab green, 100% high-grade 160gr/m2 cotton, cut-to-fit tee. Branding’s minimal – hence the name – with just a discreet brand logo up top and a See Deeper Logo Patch down the bottom.

“GIMME”: £14.99; fortiseyewear.co.uk

2. Gardner Double Barrel PVA System

Granted, PVA systems are dull. Even the most regular of user will testify this. However, welcome the Double Barrel, which stores two systems in one, meaning you only carry one main tube, but have two systems (5m Boilie and 5m Standard) inside it, along with a plunger, making it somewhat more joyous.

“GIMME”: £14.99; gardnertackle.co.uk

3. Crafty Catcher Liquids

A versatile liquid attractant is the most indispensable of bait tools. Your boilies? Glugged. That solid PVA bag? Filled. Your spod mix? Slicking! Crafty’s latest release features seven new PVA-friendly liquids, all of which can be used for the above and more. Personal favourite? Salmon Extract, of course, it’s a summer must-have.

4. CC Moore Session Packs

Everything about CC Moore’s new Session Packs is utterly brilliant. They’re money-savers; they’re available for all of their boiled foods: Equinox, Live System, Odyssey XXX and Pacific Tuna; they contain 1kg of shelf-life boilies, 2kgs of matching 6mm pellet, one tub of pop-ups and one 250ml bottle of dip; and after you’ve used the contents, you’re left with a camo bucket. High-five, CC Moore.

6. Wofte Baseball Cap

Having speedily replaced the more traditional baseball model, the five-panel is now king of caps and Wofte, a brand destined to take over your entire angling wardrobe, has two brand-new ones for this spring: the Flecktarn 5 Panel and the DPM 5 Panel. Both feature subtle black woven tags and back adjusters.

7. Wychwood T-Bar Dual Sided Scales

While most digital scales these days offer a memory function, the ability to switch between pounds and kilos (in this case, up to 60lb/27kg), a illuminated display and a condensation resistant screen, none offer all of those along with a twin screen, allowing you to share the moment of anticipation as the scales settle.

8. Cygnet Baiting Pole

This 12m, seven-piece baiting pole will provide you with devastatingly accurate baiting from this spring. The guts (i.e. the lack of flex) come from the put-over carbon composite, whilst the Baiting Spoon and Baiting Spoon Float will have you ‘shipping’ out like a seasoned match angling pro in no time. Full, in-depth review in the June edition.

10. Chub Solid Frame Carryall

Ditch the clasping rucksack for this roomy, sturdy and perfectly designed for the barrow carryall. The main rigid main compartment has major advantages: (1) the ultimate in protection; (2) it utilises the maximum inner space; and (3) keeps the bag in an upright position when it’s not fully filled. A waterproof base and reinforced handles ensure it’ll last a lifetime. Available in three sizes: M, L and XL.

“GIMME”: £49.99, £59.99 and £69.99; chubfishing.com

11. Enterprise Tackle Classic

Not only are these the best looking artificial sweetcorn hookbaits on the market, but they are now served up in a range of rich, world class flavours and colours. 12. Sticky Baits Signature Wafters

From big fish anglers (aka Adam Penning) to all-round specialists (aka Martin Bowler) to day ticket pros (aka Tom Maker) who seemingly take pressured lakes apart with total ease, the Signature Wafter from Sticky has been an indispensable bait bucket must-have for years. Available in 12 and 16mm with three washed-out colours inside each tub: pink, yellow and white. And that smell – it’s arousing delightful.

13. RidgeMonkey Heavy Duty Water Carrier

Standard water butts are useless (read: a nightmare) when it comes to filling up kettles (particularly those one-cup sized models), but RidgeMonkey’s Heavy-Duty Water Carriers are a simple solution to this age-old problem. By screwing on the inclusive removable tap, water flow is immediately much more controlled, meaning all the water you pour ends up in your kettle and not 50% of it on the floor. Available in 5, 10 and 15lt.

14. Bait-Tech Method Pellets

The Suffolk-based brand is famous for its simple-but-deadly twists on existing baits, and this new offering for twenty-sixteen is a prime example: pellets which turn into the ultimate Sticky Method Mix. Simply cover the pellets with water, wait two minutes, drain, stand for a further ten and then they’re ready to grip your Method feeder. Absolutely bloody brilliant.

15. Mainline Stick Mix Liquids

If you’re only going to treat your bait to one thing this spring, make it one of these. Whilst this collection of PVA-friendly liquids isn’t new, the Belachan Black and Essential Cell flavours most certainly are, and along with adding huge amounts of attraction to pellets, particles and Method mixes, they’ll also form a barrier around your foodbait to stop it taking on the smell of silt. A real top edge is to use a syringe to attraction-load your solid PVA bags. Tie your bag, insert the syringe and load. A top trick for the warmer months.

“GIMME”: £9.99; mainline-baits.com

16. Advanta Lead Pouches

The Single sized pouch fits a session’s worth of lead. The Double, a season’s worth which can be left in the car/van. Both are made from a highly durable material with a soft padded interior and feature double zips and carry handles.
