2016 off to a flyer for Dean Watson
CC Moore's Dean Watson got 2016 off to a great start catching numerous twenties during his first session of the year
I cannot begin to tell you just how excited I was for my latest session. One, because it was my first outing of 2016 and two, because I had just started with CC Moore and I’d just taken delivery of some of their new Pacific Tuna bait. A bait I had read so much about and a bait which had accounted for some truly stunning carp over the past three years of testing.
I had two nights of fishing ahead of me with some crazy weather forecast. Winds of 40mph and non-stop heavy rain - the sheer joy! The lake had been fishing ok with a few nice lumps gracing the bank. I was hopeful of my first fish of 2016.
Armed with the Pacific Tuna & the ever-faithful Live System boilies I was very optimistic. I set up in the middle of the lake which gave me access to the main body of water, an area I know the fish tend to hold up in during the colder months.
Each rod was fished the same kind of style, a light scattering of 30-40 freebies with a matching pop-up fished over the top. The rigs were standard pop-up rigs just a BB shot in place about 30mm from the hookbait and the super strong Arma SR hooks as the chosen hook pattern with the Fox Slik Lead Clips in place to complete the set-up.
The following morning was crazy to say the least, with four bites coming in the matter of five hours. I finished off with four stunning mirrors of: 26lb 4oz, 25lb, 21lb, and 15lb all in their golden winter colours.
My biggest fish of the session - 26lb 4oz
Three of the fish fell to the new Pacific Tuna bait and the 21lb mirror was the victim of a Live System bait. A great result for February and it makes it all worthwhile, braving the elements to cradle these stunning creatures.
