Advanta Discovery CX One Night Stand Bivvy

In fact, you’re going to fall in love with it!

There’s no denying that bivvies and shelters from the big name brands generally pack a pretty big punch when it comes to features and quality. Things not always associated with kit of a lower price. Although you do occasionally come across a little gem, which is exactly what we found with the Advanta Discovery CX One Night Stand Bivvy from Angling Direct.

Sorry, Advanta who?
Advanta is the home brand of retail giants Angling Direct who launched it in 2011 on the back of their decades of experience when it comes to knowing what the customer wants, what they expect and at what price point. They’ve clearly got it right as the brand has grown from just a handful of natty items to boasting over 300 product lines.

Ah, okay, so tell why you think this bivvy is, as you put it, a little gem?
Our fondness for the CX One Night Stand was installed straight away as we erected the bivvy. Put simply: there just wasn’t anything not to like. The bivvy’s compact and light in the supplied carry bag and the 16mm black aluminium poles went together with a smooth fit. The result was a reliable pram-hood style bivvy that up and pegged out in no time.

Okay, but isn’t that really what I should expect?
Yes, you should, but sometimes budget bivvies can try to include features above the production cost that consequently don’t always work that well. It was refreshing to see a no-nonsense shelter that instead focussed on the main functions rather than diluted extras. The result is a superb, functional bivvy that’s exactly suited for what it’s been designed for: the short session angler who wants the same footprint to rival any brolly but will offer way more protection from the elements.

Sounds good, but are there any other features?
As we’ve said, we really like the fact the bivvy displays a focus on doing the essential things well, which then does include a number of features such as front and rear mozzie vents (1) and two Velcro rod supports positioned on the front peak (2). Tension bars add to the rigidity and a really nice touch is the two storm pole points at the base of the door, allowing for an awning type set-up.

I like the sound of that. Anything else I should know?
Yep, firstly the flat back design which allows a bed to be placed right at the back of the bivvy, providing masses of space from a small footprint. We also need to mention a overwrap is also available, and of course there is also the low price tag, just £169.99. Hey, we weren’t kidding when we said AD knew how to hit all the keynotes! “GIMME”: Bivvy, £169.99; Overwrap £89.99; anglingdirect.co.uk
