Aqua Atom Camo Bivvy
Aqua’s smallest shelter just got a facelift, and it still punches well above its weight!
When Aqua launched the Atom shelter in 2015, it’s fair to say that we were impressed. Here was a bivvy so radical in its proportions, that we felt it was actually unique. Rather than making their new shelter more luxurious, Aqua opted to strip it back to within an inch of its life, making it the smallest ‘proper’ shelter out there. The question was, could it be improved?
The Big Questions
So it’s available in camo now, what’s the big deal?
It’s not just any old camo, we’re talking DPM, which is still the camo of choice for the hardcore carper. We think it looks truly beautiful, and it will undoubtedly blend in with your surroundings if, cough, you’re fishing somewhere that stealth is important…
How small is small, in this case?
Well, tiny actually. It’s a diminutive 108cm tall, which means that it’s a little snug inside. But that’s why it exists at all! We mean, you want a truly compact bivvy to be just that, compact. Okay, so you can barely move about with a bedchair inside, but all that space that you’re surrendering makes for a weight-saving.
So I can walk it to my swim, no barrow required?
Yep, that’s precisely the point. The Atom weighs only 3.5kg (4.5kg with sleeve and pegs), so you can strap it to your rucksack and head off into the wild blue yonder without feeling weighed down.
How do they make is so small then?
Well, it’s all down to the design. It’s a pram-hood bivvy, but crucially, it features just two ribs, the space between which, when erected, is your living quarters! Those poles have five breaks in them, which allows the whole thing to be packed into a sleeve that’s not a lot bigger than one of those big cola bottles!
What’s included for the price?
This is a fully functioning shelter, than needs no additions to make it work perfectly. You get a mozzi door, pegs and a matching DPM storage sleeve in on the price.
