Avid Carp Retro Leads

A lead’s a lead, right? Not so when it’s been designed and made by Avid. This new collection features the toughest (and the best camo design) coating along with some of the neatest design tweaks

You might not know it, but Avid is responsible for some of the most popular lead shapes that we now all use. They innovated the grooved inline for drop-off fishing, as well as specialist, flattened PVA bag leads and swivel leads. They have a new range out for 2017, and it’s safe to say that their reputation for innovation has been strengthened with this little lot. Perhaps the standout feature is the new coating tech that Avid have originated for this range. It’s a two-layered affair, with a lovely camo base level that melts into the lakebed, coated with a super-tough, matt, translucent outer layer. The pendant leads also feature built-in double ring swivels which help reduce line twist and tangles, and you can choose from these unique and supremely functional shapes…

1. Flat Gripper

Avid rewrote the dog-eared rulebook when designing this shape. Convention went out the window, replaced by true functionality! Put simply, these super-compact leads are stable, and offer true high-impact hooking potential!

2. Drop-Off Inline

Cracking low-profile leads that have been designed to be used drop-off style. Their shape makes them the PERFECT solid-bag lead, as they sit so unobtrusively among the bag mix, yet pack a huge punch when it comes to hooking.

3. Distance Bottle

Ranging from distinctly square, to oblong, this shape concentrates the mass of the lead right where you want it, close to the swivel, yet will cast well. The flat sides will ensure that you hold position on slopes, without the risk of the lead rolling.

4. Distance Pear

These lovely, streamlined leads will find favour as true all-rounders. We reckon they’re perfect for helicopter work, and their shape promises to be extremely stable in flight, helping you to get your rig exactly where you need it.
