Avid Carp Roadtrip Bedchair

Avid has an illustrious history when it comes to producing bedchairs. Their first foray into the carp furniture market gave us a glimpse into our shared future, in the shape of a totally flat bedchair (cue everyone else bringing them out!). In sweeping away the conventional image of a traditional bedchair with its unnatural sloping profile, Avid announced itself as a major player. Frankly, they’ve not looked back since…

Just when it seemed that bedchairs were destined to get bigger and more luxurious with every launch, Avid took us by surprise with its new Road Trip Bed. It tips the scales at a nimble 7kg, which is a HUGE saving when compared to most of today’s beds. The question is: have the designers skimped somewhere to bring it in at featherweight?

Well, at first glance, it certainly looks like a well-padded, comfortable bed (it’s roomy too, measuring 81 x 208cm). You’ve still got the integrated pillow, padded trim that covers the frame, and three sets of adjustable legs which all feature the brand’s unique Rock-Steady - a leg system which enables the angler to use the bed on steep bankings and uneven ground without the fear of any slippage. We’re not going speculate how the Avid boffins have done it; instead we’re going to marvel that it’s possible to bring a proper bedchair in at just 7kg. You can even walk to your swim with this thing under your arm if you’re mad enough to be one of those guys who doesn’t use a barrow. Should you just want to make your barrow push that bit more pleasant, this will do the trick too.

We can see the Road Trip getting some serious attention from the hardcore, mobile angler who wants to strip kit back, without compromising on comfort. The full range of functionality (adjustable legs, handwheels, mud feet and elastication) is comparable with bedchairs with much loftier reputations than this newcomer.

One thing’s for sure, this new kid might well end up ruffling a few feathers among the status quo.
