Avid Carp Tuned Barrow
Remember when you hit that root, and everything fell off the barrow? Bad, wasn’t it? Don’t want that to ever happen again? Read on…
It’s not easy to break into the carp market. So the mere fact that Avid managed to do just that, then sustain their growth, is testament to their innovative product range. It’s not like they just bought a load of off-the-peg products from the Far East and stuck their badge on them; in fact, quite the reverse is true. Almost their whole range has been rethought, from the ground up, convention dispensed with, new thinking applied and radical designs realised. Take the Tuned Barrow for instance, now there’s a clever thing…
The big five
1. You’re the type who likes things organised ‘just so’.
You might just be looking at your next barrow then. Rather than follow convention, Avid designed a barrow that can be packed intelligently. How? Well, there are two side pockets for starters, the significance of which is that they can be accessed without totally unloading the barrow. Those of you who like to fish “off-the-barrow” can chuck essentials in there and get your rods out without breaking stride. That big, square central pocket can be loaded super-efficiently too, with almost no wasted space thanks to its compatibility with the Tuned luggage range. Thanks to its design, you can purchase the Tuned Barrow Organiser which fits snugly into this space and has been designed to fit and store all the Tuned luggage items perfectly, such as the tackle and cool pouches, air-dry bags and rig bags, giving even the most disorganised of us a head start.
2. Want your barrow to corner like it’s on rails?
Of course you do. Now, remember that root again? Even trees trying to trip you up won’t faze the Tuned Barrow, and that’s partly due to the grippy, all-terrain tyre, but mainly due to the way that the barrow has been balanced. Clever distribution of weight means that even quite heavy loads feel light, and can be pushed a heck of a long way without the usual lactic burn! Adjustable arms mean that you can set the barrow perfectly, irrespective of your height, or lack of it!
3. I don’t want all my kit getting wet.
Whilst there’s not really a lot we can do about the stuff on top of the barrow - your rod bag, unhooking mat, bedchair - thanks to the waterproof Velcro-down hard top cover, everything stored inside the main compartment and two side slots will be totally protected from the wet stuff. Said hard top also doubles perfectly as a working surface when it comes to tying rigs, making up Stick/PVA bags etc.
4. You need plenty of capacity, right?
Let’s get this straight from the off: there’s loads of room on the Tuned Barrow. Whether you choose to use it all, or just part of it depends on how much kit you’ve got, but take it from us, you’ll struggle to overwhelm it! Those two side pockets are deceptively roomy, and when combined with the central pocket, add up to some substantial storage. The Tuned luggage packs flat, so chucking the bedchair and rods on top isn’t a balancing act, and side bars keep it all in place, even when the going gets a little bumpy.
5. It’ll hold the kitchen sink, but mustn’t break the bank?
There’s quite a lot more to this barrow than its £164.99 price tag might suggest. No, it’s not among the very cheapest, which tend to be conventional, single-bag barrows, nor is it quite as expensive the likes of the Nash Trax Evo or Carp Porter Power Porter, but it does occupy the middle ground very nicely indeed.
