Bait boat bliss!
It's silent and it's deadly! It's the Microcat MK111 bait boat from Angling Technics...
If you’re looking to join the thousands of anglers who use bait boats then you simply cannot afford to ignore the prospect of owning a boat built by the UK manufacturer: Angling Technics. And sitting at the top end of their range is the boat that we checked out this month: The Microcat MkIII.
First off we were pleased to see that the boat and controller were well protected by the supplied carry bag – the over the shoulder strap providing comfortable transportation of the boat weighing just 11kgs with batteries down to the lake. Now it was time to have some fun, although we were soon to learn that the Microcat was much more than just a big boy’s toy...
The advantages of the boat’s low profile design was put to use straightaway, as we ran the boat under a series of overhanging trees – exactly where you’d give your right arm to be able to place a bait! With the boat’s aerial mounted within the hull rather than on it, there was nothing to get in the way of this stealthy manoeuvre, and the first clear advantage the boat held over casting was plain to see. Being able to turn on a six-pence was then another plus point displayed by the Microcat, with little room beneath the trees and bank.
In fact, the boat was efficiently agile throughout the day, with plenty of speed when needed, provided by the quietly smooth jet pumps. The batteries that power the boat were also quick and easy to change once exhausted, as we challenged the boat by fully loading the two large bait hoppers. Again, another benefit of the bait boat was shown with the ability to present a rig with extreme accuracy. A really nice feature when dropping the bait was that you could activate the hoppers individually as well as simultaneously. In other words drop the rig and some tight bait in one hopper and drive around the area at speed, spreading some bait with the second hopper.
With remotely controlled lights for dark or nighttime conditions and more optional accessories than you can shake a stick at, such as an echo sounder and solar panel chargers, the MkIII Microcat has everything you could wish for!
