Why PVA mesh bags are so awesome for winter

Forget the guesswork, ignore the bankside theories, as Rob Hughes is here to prove what really happens when you bait up...

This is a fantastic method for winter. I've had 28 fish up to mid-twenties fishing just three short day only sessions. The method is simple: regular casting mesh bags with chopped down critically-balanced pink hookbait on the hook. In the bag is oily bag mix pellet combo with some dry 2mm coarse pellet and crushed boilie. The trick is that I dampen the pellets and crushed bait down with some liquid flavouring for a good 24hrs until it feels slightly damp and sticky. Not enough to be wet and it isn’t compressed to make a Stick as I prefer it to be left loose to breakdown quicker, but the flavours absolutely flow out.

The mesh means that there is no residue from the PVA, the liquid means there is plenty of smell, and the bright pink bait means that the trap is nice and obvious. Regular re-chucking has resulted in a few very quick bites and is without any shadow of doubt a mega winter method.
