Why you should have confidence in single baits

Sometimes you don't need to bait up - you just need a good single hookbait

Sometimes it pays not to bother baiting up at all, as singles can be deadly effective in the right circumstances, particularly in winter. Fluoros are a favourite option but bear in mind that sometimes they are not as obvious as you might think when you see them underwater.

Pink is by far and away the best choice for visibility, as the pink ones really do stand-out more than other colours underwater. You’d think that yellow or white might be the best choice, but when the water is warm it tends to be green and there is often weed around. Because yellow is at the green end of the spectrum it can therefore be a little less visible. There are white stones and dead snail shells on the bottom of lakes making white not massively obvious, so pink comes out top with orange a close second.

Use whatever colour (and flavour) you are happy with and particularly in winter keep flicking ‘em round a bit and chopping and changing on the colours - it will make a difference.
