Bright Futures For Penn & Greys

We’ve had a taster of what’s to come in 2022 from Penn and Greys and we like it A LOT—as will you!

Greys are one of the cornerstones of the British tackle trade, known to carp anglers for their quality rod-making credentials. Part of a group of brands that includes stablemates JRC and Penn, it’s fair to say there are hundreds of years of fishing knowledge swirling around their Northumberland headquarters. Right now, the group’s definitely on the up thanks to the recent big-name signing of Adam Penning as a consultant and plenty of innovative products. And the future is looking even tastier if this teaser of forthcoming products is anything to go by. Expect to see these items landing from September onwards…

1. Greys Aiircurve rods
No, we didn’t slip on the keyboard, the sequel to these highly regarded bestsellers has been cleverly named. It’s a tough act to follow the original Aircurves, but Greys have given these new models lightweight, low-resin 1k-carbon Toreon nano composite blanks with Pacific Bay KTV Minima guides and Fuji reel seats. You can select cork, abbreviated or full shrink-wrap handles and, like all other high-end Greys rods of recent times, each one will come with neoprene tip and butt protectors. The range includes 10ft, 12ft and 13ft options with test curves of 3lb, 3.25lb and 3.5lb.

2. Greys Aiircurve 12ft 4.50lb Spod Rod
This is BIG news… joining the freshly updated Aiircurve range is a new spodding tool. This 12ft rod boasts a muscle-bound 4.5lb test curve and is built on the same type of blank as the fishing rods in the range. That means it has a 50mm Minima butt ring, with four other rings including an anti-frap Tournament tip guide. This two-piece rod has a full Japanese shrink-wrap handle and, if its predecessor is anything to go by, looks set to be a powerful and stylish weapon for baiting up at range. We’re certainly looking forward to getting our hands on the whole Aiircurve range having witnessed the success of the original.

3. Penn Affinity III Spod 8000 Longcast
If you’re already thinking about upgrading your spod rod to the new Aiircurve model, then this new spod reel might be the perfect accompaniment. Built on Penn’s reputation for producing rugged sea and coarse reels, this one has been purpose built for spodding and marker work. With a high gear ratio it retrieves a massive 1.2m of line per turn of the handle, while the egg-shaped knob offers easy grip even when dealing with sloppy mixes. It features Penn’s super-strong patented CNC gearing with seven sealed stainless bearing inside. It has an extra-slow oscillation which promises great line lay and two metal line clips.
