C-Ing Is Believing With Prologic

After some quality, affordable and good-looking rods? Prologic have the perfect answer with their C-Series AB All-Rounders

If you’re a keen follower of Prologic’s output then you won’t have missed just how many new products they’ve unleashed on the UK market in recent months. The launch of a huge range of new reels at the turn of the year probably stole the show, but it’s well worth investigating their growing line up of rods. Nestled near the bottom, RRP-wise, is a range that defies its pricing. Both of CARPology’s videographers and tackle-testers, Joe Wooltorton and Luke Venus have been using these rods for the last few months and these are their five key takeaways…

1. All-Round Action
There are two different blank types in the C-Series range and these are the AR versions. AR stands for All Round and is different from the other option, the XD models, which are designed for distance casting. The AR blanks’ properties make playing fish more fun and more forgiving, with a softer action to prevent hook pulls at close quarters. They’re certainly not ‘floppy’ and will cast far enough, but aren’t out-and-out distance tools.

2. Lightweight Guides
The most striking element of these rods is the guides. They are Prologic’s lightweight MM-Series rings and they certainly fulfil their brief to save weight. This helps give the blanks a crisper, more responsive feel during casting—and they look great too! There are 50mm butt rings up to 16mm anti-frap tip rings throughout the range.

3. Quality Fixtures
It’s a cliché, but these rods really do look more expensive than they are. At the butt, there’s a stepped and flared end section wrapped in Japanese shrink rubber. Your reel sits in a stylish vented and anodised aluminium reel seat, while just above that sits a section of 1k carbon reinforcement with an integrated carbon line clip. Coupled with those striking guides, the C-Series rods look great.

4. Plenty Of Options
Prologic certainly don’t do things by half and have created another line up to cater for most tastes. There are two 12ft C-Series AB AR rods (with test curves of 3lb and 3.25lb), plus a 10-footer with a 3lb test curve. In addition, each rod is also available in Prologic’s ‘Lotus’ range, which they say is designed to appeal to female carpers. These rods offer the same features but with a different aesthetic. There’s also a matching 5lb-test-curve spod rod.

5. The Cost
A key consideration for many when buying an item of tackle is cost. And you might just be surprised by the numbers associated with the C-Series AB All Round rods. The 10-footer has an RRP of £52.99 and the two 12-footers have an RRP of £59.99. However, you should be able to pick all of them up for around the £40 mark, which really is outstanding value.
