Century Armalite MK3
The Armalite is packed with heritage and is one of the most versatile rods ever built...
The now legendary Century Armalite range has come a long way since its original release which was initially to the German market back in 1983. The improved MK2 version followed in 1995 with the first of the third generation of Armalites hitting the shops in spring 2004. This classic parabolic ‘player’s rod’ action is steeped in both history and heritage and this latest version is a real thing of beauty.
1. The blank
The blank itself remains very similar in almost every way to the original MK3. Constructed in-house, here in the UK, from a Century specific woven carbon and Kevlar impregnated cloth which is hugely instrumental in the incredible playing action that Armalite users have come to know and love over many years. The latest blank has been improved and modernised somewhat over time with the inclusion of both Century’s groundbreaking Autoclave technology as well as the addition of some extra internal materials to provide the Armalite with a little added extra backbone in the right places for situations where slightly heavier leads and a little added range may be a requirement.
2. Cork upgrade
The newest MK3, which was released in early 2015, has also undergone a serious cosmetic makeover. The addition of a full supergrade cork/composite cork handle and custom ALPS reel seat complements the finish on the blank and updated olive green whippings to perfection.
3. Great update
What has, for years, been regarded as ‘the ultimate player’s rod’ by many in the know, now has both the looks and all round performance that bring it right up to date in the world of modern carp fishing while maintaining that lovely old school vibe that’s become synonymous with this all time classic. Quite simply the best sub 100yds rod there has ever been.
4. The range
There are three models in the MK3 line-up, all of which are 12ft. At the base there’s stunning, super action 1.75lb TC; then a 2.25lb; and finally a 2.75lb model, and they retail for £330, £337 and £340. centurycarp.co.uk
