The myth
‘Three rods on the money and a tight baited area is proper OX29 fishing but how do they do it? It seems that it’s the trendy way to fish and certainly catches carp but is it really as hard as it’s made out to be?’
The reality
“Whilst getting three rods on more or less the same spot with tramline straight lines heading out may look very impressive, it isn’t actually that tricky to do. The trickiest thing is getting your head around the fact that all your eggs are laying in one basket, which is fine on high stocked waters where the fish are moving round, especially in groups, looking for food.
“To achieve this effect all you have to be, as with any form of accuracy, is consistent. The key is to make sure that all of the rigs are wrapped to exactly the same distance, use the same rig and lead set-up on each rod, and make sure your casting, power, stance and starting/end points are the same. Then simply pick your spot on the horizon, cast at it, kissing the clip on the way down, and repeat with the second rod aiming for exactly the same spot. It’s just like re-casting the first rod but without reeling in. If it goes slightly right or left of target, move the rods around on the sticks and bingo… Plus you can look uber cool too!”
