Brief of the lake: The specimen carp lake—known as the Main Lake—is approximately 3.5-acres and home to no less than 440 fish! There are 16 swims situated around the spacious banks, all of which can be accessed by driving around the venue, making it easy and accessible to drop your kit off before returning to the main secure car park. What makes Acorn Fishery really unique are the comfortable camping huts which are available to hire. However, should you prefer to use your own bivvy, that’s perfectly fine.

Stocking levels: Of those 440 carp, well over 100 of them go over 20lb, and 1 in 4 bites will often produce a good fish. The stock is made up of a wide selection of both mirror and common carp, offering the angler the chance to bag a stunning fully scaled mirror, immaculate common and everything in between! The lake record mirror currently stands at 38lb while the common is 36lb.
Features: The Main Lake is clay-bottomed with depths varying up and down to 9ft in certain areas. Along with shallow marginal shelves, you’ll find raised bars, plateaux and deeper troughs, plus there are three islands to target.
Tactics: Thanks to that firm clay lakebed, it’s easy to ensure perfect presentation with both bottom-bait and pop-up rigs. It’s also worth noting that the carp do love a floater, so these shouldn’t be ignored. Going tactics include a ‘bait-and-wait’ approach using quality boilies and pellets (which can be purchased on-site) and during the winter months maggots are allowed and these can prove to be a devastating tactic.
