How to create a cheap Method feeder mix
It's cheap to knock up, it's incredibly effective, and it gives you A1 presentation every time. Here's how to create the ultimate cheap Method mix...
The humble Method feeder seems to be a forgotten tool in today’s carp fishing world which is a real shame because it’s (1) very versatile and (2) offers an approach that the carp rarely come across.
The Method utilises a weighted plastic frame which you mould a mix of groundbaits and particles around and then fish a short and supple hooklink, to which you mount a small hookbait such as a 10mm boilie or 14mm Halibut pellet. The other great advantage to using the Method, apart from having a pile of lovely groundbait next to your hookbait, is the fact you can cast it virtually anywhere: into lilies or seedbeds.

Cheap Mix Ingredients
1. Original Vitalin, £10.00 for 10kgs. 2kgs used in this mix: £2.00
2. Two tins of Tesco Value Sweetcorn. 70p; www.tesco.com
3. Two tins of Tesco Value Tuna Chunks. £1.30; www.tesco.com
4. Tesco Value Medium Sliced White Bread. 40p; www.tesco.com
5. Tesco Anchovies. 70p. www.tesco.com
Total cost: £5.10 for 3.87kgs of mix
How to put the mix together
1. Add boiling water to the Vitalin a little at a time until it soaks all of the water up and becomes a stodgy and sticky mix.
2. Place your white bread into a food processor and blitz until it becomes a fine breadcrumb. Then mix this into the Vitalin until it is dispensed evenly.
3. Take your tuna and anchovies out of the tins and mash them up with a fork until they go flaky.
4. Next mix them into the Vitalin and breadcrumb and add some of the oils. This will make the mix really attractive and oily.
5. Finally, empty the corn into the mix with the liquid and stir well. Leave this to stand for 2hrs before use (this is why it’s best to make the mix up at home in advance) to let the mix soak in the attractors. If the mix is too dry to wrap round a feeder, then add a small amount of lake water.
How to: Mould the mix around the feeder
1. Fill the palm of your hand with the groundbait mix you’ve just made and then place the feeder on top of the bait like so.
2. Fill your other palm with Method mix and push it over the top of the empty feeder and squeeze hard with both hands to mould it around the frame.
3. You can shape the method ball by placing it in one of your hands and rolling it along your palm to make it rounder and more aerodynamic.
4. When you have done that you are ready to cast out. You can either fish your bait pushed into the mix or left unattached.
