How to hit long range marks

Whilst Mark Hutchinson will advise you of the importance of gaining those extra yards (search ‘Mark Hutchinson’ on YouTube) actually gaining them isn’t always that easy. Now while we’ll let him tell you about ‘push and pulls’ and sideway whacks (again, see video), CARPology.net will just remind you that having a filled-to-the-lip spool and carrying out our ‘Top Four’ long-chunking tips will also help.

Shockleader knot

When using any kind of leader you need to make sure you use the correct knot to attach it to your main line. The ideal knot for this is the Four Turn Back-To-Back Grinner Knot as shown here.

Marking up

Use line markers a lot? Attach your shockleader and wind the knot down to the roller. Then pull the material down to the very bottom of the rod and cut. You can now replace without affecting your markers.

Safety lead set-up

For pendant leads use a safety clip. With in-lines replace the hard insert with a Korda Shockleader Sleeve. This is a rubber replacement that will allow the leader knot to pass through the lead.

Bagging up

Using a boilie funnel web put three baits in and tie off. Push the baiting needle through the side of the top one and pull your Hair back through. This makes the whole rig more streamlined.
