Gardner’s classic TLB range now includes a ‘+’ model, with enhanced receiver capabilities and a sleek new look
It’s a simple fact that poor products don’t last long in the marketplace, so the longevity of the Gardner TLB is a solid indicator of its quality. The old ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ adage remains in play here, but the new TLB+ alarms have been tweaked and modified to keep pace with modern trends. A true no-nonsense unit, these buzzers still haven’t let the grass grow under their feet.
1. Time-honoured functionality
It’ll be scarcely believable to some, but these little buzzers are 22-years-old this year. Not many items of tackle can last two decades in the same skin, but the TLBs have a timeless design that continues to stay relevant. The revamped Pluses boast a new carbon-style faceplate but keep that familiar silhouette.
2. New innards
They might look broadly the same as they did in 1997, but these newer models have an upgraded printed circuit board for enhanced functionality and reliability. And they’re still as loud as they ever were - kicking out 93 decibels at a distance of 10cm.
3. Pure simplicity
With a free-running roller wheel that will operate with the lightest of bobbins and a three-way on/off/silent toggle switch, using the TLBs is very easy. The roller wheel is also housed under a protective cover, so they won’t freeze up in the harshest conditions like some alarms can.
4. Wireless capabilities
One of the key features of the Pluses is their compatibility with the ATT receivers (also part of the Gardner stable). This means a theoretical range of over 225m with the ATT Deluxe receivers and more than 150m with the V2 ATTx unit. The integration with both is completely seamless.
5. Built to last, built here
Open your shed or garage and look at your collection of tackle. How much of it can you honestly say is hand-made in the UK? Not much of it, most likely. The TLB Plus alarms, however, continue to be skillfully built in this country. At just 65mm tall, they look just right and are now available with Blue, Red, Purple, Green, Yellow or White LEDs.
