Greys GT Spod and Marker Rods
Feature-finding and baiting-up made easy thanks to Greys’s groundbreaking new GT Spod and Marker Rods
Anyone who says modern-day tech is shite, is lying. Bivvies are more luxurious than penthouse apartments; bedchairs offer more comfort than a four-poster; and thanks to Greys, finding the perfect spot and then baiting up to it with pinpoint accuracy is now as easy as using a bait boat with an echo sounder. Where previously to read the swim perfectly you either needed to be Nigel Sharp or Terry Hearn, or own said remote controlled device – now, thanks to Greys’s new GT Spod and Marker rods – you can do it for a fraction of the price. There are two models of each available: a Standard 12ft or the Distance which is 12ft 6” and here’s how they shape up… “GIMME”: £119.99 and £139.99; greysfishing.com
1. Handle
Whilst Greys’s clever carbon and G-Lite guides (more on those later) will perform a large percentage of the task, just like a golf club, grip is king when it comes to your side of the deal. Both the GT Spod and Marker are equipped with the finest of high-density but soft-touch duplon, giving you a much firmer, more confident grip. And just for flashiness, there’s a black anodised butt cap.
2. Reel seat
Forget discomfort when on prolonged feature-finding and/or baiting-up sessions thanks to the Fuji NPS 20 reel seat. Tapered for comfort with a solid locking collar for zero reel movement.
3. Blank
Both Greys’ a la carte spod and marker rods are based around their blanks. Cosmetically it’s a raw carbon, anti-scratch sanded finish. Feature-wise, the Marker comes with 6, 12, 18 and 24-inch depth markers. Performance-wise, they’re both fast action with the fastest tip recovery known to man – and it’s for this reason why wayward spods will be a thing of the past when baiting up the GT Spod.
4. Butt ring
Working in harmony with the smooth, progressive power of the blank, is the large 50mm butt ring. And to help keep the weight down, this and all the other rings used are the awesome G-Lite Utralite Guides.
5. Tip ring
Wave goodbye to frap-ups around the tip ring. On both the Marker and Spod, Greys have whipped on their seamless Anti-Frap Tip Ring.
