How to critically balance your hookbait
Follow these simple steps to critically balance your hookbaits
1 Start by running the hooklink on a slow sinking, supple material - something with less density than leadcore like lead-free leader materials or mono.
2 Use a super-buoyant pop-up that will lift the line or leader that it’s running upon off the bottom slightly – this gives scope to balance the pop-up.
3 Mould a little rig putty around the hooklink swivel and test the rig in the margin, continue until the rig initially lifts the leader but then slowly sinks.
4 The finished ‘critically balanced’ set-up will come to rest delicately over the contours of the lakebed and fly-up into the mouth of feeding carp!
