How to make your leads more attractive
How Midlands-based carper Ken Beech makes his leads even more attractive...
Not being one to rest on my laurels, I have recently been playing around with my leads to try and make them work for me as well. Some of the coatings on the leads I use will absorb liquid which got me thinking: could I make my lead give off a source of attraction? I hadn’t seen anyone else doing it so why not?
1 Get some lake water
Start off by putting some lake water into a suitable container or bucket. I start this process at home by taking some lake water home with me at the end of a previous session.
2 Mix your ingredients
I then mix in a generous dose of sea salt, followed by a good helping of Richworth’s Green Lipped Mussel Extract. This is naturally occurring product and therefore cannot be over done.
3 It should look like this...
With all the ingredients placed into your bait tub, give the mixture a good mix with a stick (don’t use your brew spoon!) until it all mixes and goes frothy and a stale beer colour.
4 Now add your leads
Put your leads into the mix and leave them for 24 or 48hrs. Like I said, I usually start this process at home in a small sealable bucket in batches of six leads at a time. It just saves time.
5 Give it a good shake
After 12hrs or so, the mix will start to settle and clear with the GLM Extract sinking to the bottom of the container. Remove the leads, give the liquid a good mix and replace the leads.
6 Add an outer coating
After 24hrs or so, I remove them and drop the saturated leads into a pot of Richworth’s Green Lipped Mussel Extract and give the pot a shake to liberally coat the leads.
7 Double attraction!
This produces an outer crust of pure GLM powder which leaks off over a period of time. Once this crust has dissolved, you still have the lead giving off attraction from the initial soaking.
It’s dead easy to do and takes no effort whatsoever, just a little time management. And it might make all the difference to your fishing.
