Max Cottis says: Max Cottis says: “Singles can be a great way of picking up fish in winter when the carp are far less active and more likely to pick up a bait more out of curiosity than hunger. To help increase the attractiveness of your pop-up, I always give them a little boost by putting a little extra flavour in a bag and then empty my tub of pop-ups into it, give them a good roll around and then leave them in the bag to soak this flavour up before popping them back in the tub. One word of caution here: be careful not to overdo your flavour, especially if it’s a very strong flavour like Tutti or similar.
“Finally, people tend to focus on pop-ups for singles as they are obviously more visual, depending on water clarity of course however don’t overlook ‘bottom baits’ too – especially if you glug this in some kind of liquid – liquid liver or Minamino being two of my favourites.”
