Is camo really king?

Fed up of listening with bleeding ears to the lake bore who knows absolutely everything and everything?

The myth

‘You’ve just bobbed down The Tackle Box and suited yourself up on the latest camo kit and, feeling uber cool, rock up to the lake for a bit of surface fishing. Unfortunately the fish seem to disappear from right under your feet.’

The reality

“The fundamentals of military camouflage are to match the surroundings in front of you. If you’re thick in the woods then that Realtree onesie will be just what the doctor ordered, but if you are urban-banking-it you’d be better dressed like a brick wall, or a lamp post, or indeed like a street urchin. Matching the colour of what is around you is the best way to blend in. We’ve already seen that they can’t see you too well, but if you are surface fishing or stalking, those fish may well be right in the edge and that’s the danger zone. Trees equals green but in the open is a completely different kettle. Nature shows us that the best colour to stalk fish in the edge is grey/white (think heron) and if you are out on the banks and a “noddy” turns up on the opposite bank wearing a white or grey T-Shirt whilst he’s angling, perhaps it might pay to have a look at yourself and then have a re-think.”
