This looks very safe, but bulky…
There’s always a trade off between carp care and mat size, but this one has a clever fold-out design that takes up much less space. The mat itself has a hinge to allow it to be folded flat and the sides collapse in, making it very easy to transport and store.
Will it protect the fish?
Of course. The extra-thick mattress is filled with high-density foam, as are the walls, which will stop the fish sliding off. The lid flap, made from perforated rubber mesh, adds extra security.
Can I keep fish safe on my own?
This mat will definitely help lone anglers. The secure lid flap is very useful and the carry straps meet in the middle with a Velcro clasp, so you can safely move the fish back to the water on your own. Pegging points also mean the mat won’t blow away in high winds.
Any other neat features?
There’s a reflective rim around the mat, which means you’ll know exactly where you’re going as you manoeuvre a fish into place with your head torch on. Thankfully there’s also an anti-stink carry bag included so you won’t pollute your car at the end of a trip.
