Kevin Nash on inventing
The company MD, Kevin Nash on pushing the boundaries, innovation and changing the way we sleep...
What has been Nash Tackle’s greatest innovation?
“There have been so many, but the rod holdall to take made up rods, the Titan and the Safety Bolt Bead would be right up there, and recent groundbreaking innovations must be the Scope Rods and our Zig Bugs.”
How difficult is it to keep coming up with ground-breaking technology?
“Not at all! We are all anglers out there angling so naturally there are always constant ideas, innovations and developments. Our biggest problem is having the time and resource to develop the many ideas we keep coming up with.”
How important are consultants in the development of new products?
“Frankly speaking, not as much as one would think or we would like them to be. We do most of the development and testing internally and it’s only really at the final stages that we can really involve the consultants – security is the biggest issue, coupled with usually only having very limited numbers of prototypes and samples.”
Has there ever been a product that didn’t work as well as you thought?
“Absolutely. When you are pushing the limits with innovation, as we do, there are going to be failures. It’s part and parcel of good development – understanding the failures and working around them to find suitable solutions.”
You changed the way we sleep on the bank, but do you now feel we have reached the pinnacle of bedchair design?
“Not at all. We are continuing to push this frontier forwards and have some great ideas and concepts for the future.”
