Kodex Karpmate Guest/Over-Bed Chair

A compact chair that delivers on all fronts? Kodex invite you to take a seat…

The latest offering from the multi-faceted Kodex brand is a versatile chair that might just prove too nice to hand over to guests. Being the carp arm of the all-conquering Middy match brand, Kodex have a hell of a lot of expertise to draw upon when constructing usable, durable products - and that’s clear to see in this design. Bankside furniture is often a trade-off between competing needs, but the Karpmate appears to have all bases covered without weighing you down. It’s billed as the perfect guest chair, but you’ll be offering swim visitors a bucket once you’ve reclined in this one.

1 Small but mighty

The Karpmate weighs in at just 3.8kg and folded down it measures 59cm long, 45cm wide and just 15cm deep, so it certainly won’t slow you down on your barrow push.

However, it’s also solidly built and rated to an impressive 18 stone, so even bigger anglers can sink into it in comfort.

2 Versatility

There’s a clever rear-leg system at work here that turns what looks like an ordinary chair into one that can be hooked over a bedchair in moments. The single-bar rear leg can rotate through 180-degrees, enabling you to lie it flat on the centre of your bedchair and sit in comfort even if the weather has forced you into your bivvy.

3 Sit down with confidence

Beyond losing a hooked fish, there are few things in fishing more frustrating than sitting down on your chair only for it to collapse beneath you. The front legs on the Karpmate lock in place against the frame to prevent calamitous collapses. It’s a simple clip-in system that does exactly what you want it to do.

4 So much comfort

This is a fully padded chair with a back section spanning 50cm, so you won’t be coming into contact with any cold, uncomfortable metal. The fabric also boasts a lovely peach-skin texture which you can relax into without the scratchy, slippery feel of some nylons.

5 Solid as a rock

The Karpmate’s rear bar system and large swivelling mud feet at the front combine to make a really planted chair. With the front legs securely clipped in place, you won’t be rocking or rolling on uneven ground with this chair. Those sturdy front legs are also height adjustable from 30 to 42cm.
