Life made easier
Thanks to Cygnet and their inventive Bucket Adaptor Kit, you’ll now have a tighter baited area and avoid going to the osteopath (i.e. it’s also a money-saver!)
Spodding (or are we all calling it Spombing now?) is one of angling’s most ancient methods of baiting up, and whilst the actual delivery system may have radically changed over the decades, the principle of getting the food out there has not.
Ask any spodder (or Spomber) who can hit the float with any accuracy what the key to their success rate is and they’ll answer with one word: consistency. It’s the same with a throwing stick: you need to build up a rhythm and continually bending down to refill the spod/Spomb/throwing stick isn’t going to achieve that.
So: what have I learnt from using the Cygnet Bucket Adaptor Kit over the last 18-months? Well, firstly it takes up literally no more space. The three storm poles which screw into the adaptors weigh sod all and just fit inside my quiver and the bucket is just that, a standard bucket but with adaptors around the sides.
Secondly, once you’ve screwed each of the three poles into place and hiked it up to waist height, the result is, quite simply, astonishing. There are no extended breaks between reloading the Spomb and recasting. There’s no bending down, no backache, less miss-casts – it’s just you, comfortable and now hitting the same spot with a far greater level of consistency.
And if that wasn’t impressive enough, wait until you hear the price… Available in two packages, the first just being the adaptors for the bucket and these will set you back £14.99. The complete kit, which includes the adaptors and three storm poles, is a mere £39.99. cygnettackle.co.uk
Other rad stuff from Cygnet
Quicklock Butt Rests
There are loads of companies doing culty-looking products right now, but there’s only a handful doing culty and innovative and here’s one. These spring-tensioned arms clamp your rod butt in place and come with two sets of arms which are interchangeable to securely grip abbreviated handles or cork/duplon grips. “GIMME”: £5.99 as singles or £14.99 for a set of three.
Tiny ‘Snugs’
Cygnet have evolved from that ‘black aluminum company from the early 90’s’ to one of producing genuinely desirable rod support systems and their ‘Snugs’ is one seriously awesome example. Following inundated requests from anglers wanting to get their reels even tighter together, the company now produces the two-rod version in just four-inches (£7.99) and three-rod in 7.5-inches (£9.99) – now that’s tight (as the actress said to the bishop!).
