Make this October the best yet!
Five steps to put you on the right track for an alarm screaming month from Jordan Dicks
Step 1
“Before setting-up I will always do at least one lap of the lake to try and spot any signs of fish and get my location right first, often spending hours looking around the lake before choosing a swim. Also having a chat with other anglers who can sometimes help by telling you where fish have been caught recently.”
Step 2
“One thing that I have become really conscious of over the last year or so, is hook sharpness. It’s just so important that I’ll always make sure my hooks are pin sharp before putting them onto my chosen spots. This will definitely get you more bites.”
Step 3
“The weather plays a large part in my decisions regarding how much bait to apply. The fish are often up for a good feed through autumn before the winter months; so don’t be afraid to put out an extra bit of bait.
Three rods spread over a large area of bait can be an excellent ploy!”
Step 4
“The difference between day and night temperatures can differ a great deal at this time of year, which will definitely get the fish moving around the lake a lot more. Moving with the fish will definitely get you that extra bite or two, with first light a great time for spotting fish and getting an idea of where they are.”
Step 5
“The weather forecast plays a big part in my fishing nowadays and I’m continuously watching it, using XCweather.co.uk. This gives you a 3hr break down of the forecast and most importantly the air pressure readings and signs of the best conditions - warm, wet and windy days normally with low air pressure.”
