MC-60 Brolly and accessories

It’s Trakker’s new light, nimble and mobile shelter that’s amazingly still as spacious and comfortable as a pram-hood

Tuesday 7th April and CARPology is bankside with the guys from Trakker. They’ve invited us along to not only try and impress us with their newly improved Downpour collection (over to your right), but to showcase a new brolly system.

There’s definitely a hint of ‘we’ve-got-something-special-to-show-you’ in the spring air as we meet Gaz Hood and Jerry Bridger, Trakker’s marketing and sales chaps. And, predictably, we’re not disappointed. We say “predictably”, because given the last 12-months’ worth of products from Trakker, we’re guessing their 2015 spring collection is only going to be a follow-on to what’s been nothing sort of sensational.

On first impressions, the MC-60 Brolly looks like a very good modern-day take on a traditional oval. Nothing revolutionary, nothing Maverick-like. It’s a good, solid, 60”-framed, mini storm-sided brolly. It’s light (it weighs just 4.1kgs minus the pegs and two Quicksticks), nimble and pretty damn spacious for an oval thanks to the new space-saver frame Trakker have used. And that frame comes wrapped in Trakker’s used-and-abused and super-waterproof 210D polyester fabric.

But where the MC-60 differs to its compatriots is with the optional extras, and these can turn this hardwearing brolly into a fully customised system to suit your own individual needs. Thanks to the heavy-duty, fully elasticated zip which runs along the front edge of the MC-60 Brolly, you can securely zip-in either a full infill (£69.99) to give you more protection from the weather elements or a mozzie panel (£34.99) which will offer superb protection against those buzzing nightmares.

Although it comes with two 24” Quicksticks, heavy-duty pegs and a drawcord carry bag, there are three more items which can be purchased separately. For added comfort there’s a Half Groundsheet (£43.99), a Centre Pole (£9.99) which makes the process of erecting the brolly easier, and 48” Quicksticks (£12.99 each) which can be added to the front two ribs for increased stability.

So it appears first impressions can be deceptive. The MC-60 isn’t just a lightweight, get-up-and-go oval. In reality it’s a fully customisable system – one which is ready to protect you and your kit whether you’re on a work overnighter or doing your annual five-day session in the summer hols.
