MORE EFFICIENT | SONIK V2 ASX BIVVY
The new V2 AXS from Sonik is set to enhance your living experience on the bank...

Building upon its esteemed bivvy lineage, Sonik’s AXS V2 boasts numerous enhancements compared to its predecessor, the original AXS. Shape, materials, and features have all been addressed to make this a real head-turner when it comes to bankside real estate. CARPology’s YouTube Presenter, Joe Wooltorton, was among the first to put it to the test, so far spending six nights inside one. Here’s his verdict…
As a seasoned user of the original Sonik AXS, what are your first impressions of the V2 model?
Fortunately, the fundamental design remains largely unchanged—and that’s a positive! The original provided ample internal space relative to its size, and this latest iteration stays true to that legacy—now with added features and enhancements!
The spec sheet reveals a new central hub, upgraded material, and a subtle alteration in shape. Beginning with the central hub, what are your thoughts?
First off, it’s visually stunning. Although I never encountered any problems with the previous block, this new metal one is not only aesthetically pleasing but also substantially stronger. While I can’t say it has drastically reduced setup time—it was already remarkably quick—what I can attest to is the enhanced stability provided by the new block and design once it’s set up. Unlike the previous models, where the peak poles slotted into the block, this new design features caps on the peak that neatly pop over the poles, resulting in a much cleaner appearance.
The new model features a more square-shaped design. What are your thoughts on this change, and does it feel more spacious to you?
I originally used the AXS Standard before switching to the AXS XL, as I required a little extra space. The new AXS resembles the original (Standard) in terms of internal space. It’s plenty big enough for you, your bed, and all your kit, although some may want an XL version… Is there one in the pipeline, Sonik?
The groundsheet has also been updated—is it noticeable, and more to the point, is it better?
There are a few neat features. Firstly, it can now be quickly clipped in or alternatively zipped in for those a little more creepy-crawly-conscious. Secondly, there’s a ‘fold-back door entry flap’. This aids in keeping the entrance area dry and clean with ease.
The outer material has been upgraded from 10,000mm to 16,000mm. Have you noticed an improvement in quality?
It certainly appears to be more robust, although that could also be attributed to the new metal central block. The reduction in light ingress is a welcome feature, especially for anglers trying to get a bit more shut-eye during daylight hours. As for water repellency, it certainly kept the lawn dry for a few days after my initial test set-up.
Are there any other nice new features you need to tell us about?
The main one for me is the introduction of mesh vents and windows that can be accessed from both inside and out. So, if last night’s curry is getting a bit much to handle but you are still comfy in bed, now you can just ‘AXS’ (see what I did there?!) the vents from the comfort of your five-season curry cocoon. It’s also worth noting there are now integral Watershed™ vent spacer bars which ensure much better airflow—that certainly aids with the above problem! From a price point, I think it’s very competitive when you look at the spec and what’s included. The V2 Bivvy retails for £399.99, the Vapour Cap comes in at £59.99 and the Wrap is £149.99.
