Nash R4 Revolutionary
Nash’s Siren R3s are modern classics but the follow-ups look even better…
It’s easy to forget just how hard our bite alarms work for us, sitting there always on. If you’re a Siren R3 owner of any duration you’ll have long since taken for granted their effortless performance in all weathers, barely sipping at their battery power. With reliability a hard-won accolade there’s now a sequel in town—the Siren R4—and Nash have cranked the dial marked ‘features’ up to 11.
1. All senses covered
A patent is pending on Nash’s new R4 sensing abilities, with the rollerwheel-based system able to differentiate between all sorts of nuisance activity and actual bites. That means whether you’re winter Zigging and seeking out slow line tightening, or wishing to eradicate false bleeps from drifting weed or lapping waves when fishing from a boat, the R4s will keep you informed.
2. Homecoming mode
A new feature that’ll please boat anglers is the placement of a bright white LED on the rear of the alarms which can help you navigate back to your swim after dropping a rig or playing a fish in the dark. The function can be switched on via the receiver, which has a range of up to 750yds, and is a welcome safety addition for big-water anglers.
3. Easier batteries
The all-conquering Siren R3s were great alarms with bulletproof reliability and plenty of features, but they were powered by the kind of battery (CR2 lithium ones) you couldn’t easily get in your local corner shop or petrol station. Thankfully, the new R4s take a pair of AAA cells, which makes replacing them a whole lot easier. The new receiver is also USB-C rechargeable and a charge is said to last for 20 weeks, which is handy.
4. Night Glo
The new alarms can now be set to a Night Glo mode which keeps the twin front-facing LEDs softly glowing all night. In addition, there’s a new range of illuminated indicators that fit into the light socket on the front of the R4 heads and pair up seamlessly. The alarms themselves have wrap-around LEDs for visibility from all angles, two brightness settings and a choice of red, blue, white, green or purple colours.
5. Two-year guarantee
Reliability is crucial in a set of bite alarms and though the previous R3 models certainly had that reputation, it’s obvious that new customers might be hesitant to trust a brand-new model. To allay any such fears, Nash have slapped a two-year guarantee on these new versions. With the company’s large roster of European sponsored anglers fishing some seriously demanding venues, it’s safe to assume the R4s have been tested to breaking point before release.
And there are new indicators to match!
Nite Glo Bobbins
Available in Small (8g) or Large (15g) with additional drag weights available, these illuminated bobbins connect via a bayonet push-and-twist connection to the light output on the R4’s face and sync to the alarm colour.
Nite Glo Swing Arms
Working on the same principle as the bobbins, these illuminated indicators work as traditional swingers or as spring-loaded tension arms using the same system as Nash’s previous Wasp indicators.
