Nash Scope Ops range
A rucksack that doubles as a bivvy table and even a rod support?
Undoubtedly one of the standout items in Nash’s new range of products is this sturdy, versatile rucksack. Sporting the new custom camo, this sub-£90 item offers so much more than a standard backpack and fits perfectly with the growing Scope ethos. If you are looking to pare down your kit and keep mobile as you search for fish, this Swiss Army Knife of a rucksack could be a very useful tool.
The first thing you will spot about the Recon is its rigidity - even when empty, the stiffened sides and base of the bag keep it from collapsing. That means it’s a great base from which to easily pluck the items you need when fishing from a barrow or placing this rucksack on a canal towpath, without fighting with folds of fabric.
This inherent sturdiness also means the elasticated bankstick loops on the outside can turn the Scope Ops Recon Rucksack into a rod support, allowing you to get the rods out super quickly on all terrains. You would probably want to brace the rucksack against something solid in case a charging fish pulled it in, but it really can be used as an instant rod pod.
The next clever design feature you’ll find is that the main compartment zips open from the ‘back’, where the rucksack’s straps are. This back section is also stiff enough to fold out into an impromptu bivvy table, a little bit like the way an iPad cover turns into a stand to prop up the screen.
On this fold-out side table you can securely place the magnetic bivvy tray that comes supplied with the Recon. The usefulness of such a tray, for storing bits that have a habit of rolling away when tying rigs on the bank, should not be underestimated. There
are further magnets in the top of the rucksack for the tray to attach to when the bag is freestanding in an upright position.
Inside the main section, which is open and undivided, are two zipped mesh pockets that are perfect for storing valuables or smaller items. There are also spacious full-length zipped compartments on either side of the rucksack, which measures approximately 36cm high, 37cm wide and 22cm deep.
As with all Nash luggage, it feels sturdy, the zips glide round and, dressed up in the new custom camo, it looks as good as it performs.
