New drop from Wychwood Tackle

Not only is Wychwood’s unseasonal drop of new products very kind on the eyes, it’s all bloody darn functional too

Limited Edition Gold Spool For Extricator 5000FD

The Extricator 5000FD is a gem of a reel that has found itself attached to plenty of shorter rods and stalking set-ups, and it’s just been given an optional touch of colour. The original silver spools looked great on these front-drag reels, but now there’s a limited-edition gold version available.

Flashes of gold have long had a place in the carp-reel market and this Wychwood’s own version sits very nicely on the Extricator 5000FD’s compact black magnesium body. Set against the reel’s wooden handle, the whole package looks very smart indeed. Priced at under a tenner, these are sure to be popular as a spare or simply as a fresh look, so snap them up before that limited run ends.

Brolly Storage Pockets

Keeping essential items off the ground but within easy reach can be a bit of pain when fishing with a brolly, but these two pockets offer a simple solution. The lightweight mesh secures items like keys, receivers, phones and wallets, or any other items you want to keep safe but accessible. The smaller mesh pocket has a hammock-style fitting, while the larger version boasts an elasticated opening to keep its contents secure. It’s a case of ‘fit and forget’ with these items - once installed you can leave them attached to the rear ribs of your brolly permanently, so you don’t have to worry about removing them when packing away. These pockets have been supplied with Wychwood’s MHR-HD brollies for a while now, and have proved very popular but now offered separately, all brolly owners can benefit from their clever piece of design.

Tactical 9/10ft Rod Sleeve

These neatly executed rod sleeves provide sturdy protection for shorter rods without any fuss. The padded main section slips over your rod and reel, and everything is tensioned against an elasticated butt protector. That means there are no zips to damage your rod rings or snag on your main line. These Tactical Rod Sleeves will accommodate 9ft and 10ft rods (and any size in between), and have been deliberately kept lightweight to match the mobile ethos associated with smaller rods. Each sleeve is supplied with a padded shoulder strap, and you can use each rod protector individually or clip them together in sets using just a single strap. Made from hard-wearing materials, with oversized clips and DPM camo detailing, these sleeves are a well-thought-out rod-protection system for shorter rods.

Rod Pod Kits

Providing a set-up for every possible type of swim terrain, these combination rod pod kits can be configured in many different ways. Whether you go for the Wide or Slims range of Wychwood bankware, or opt for the two-rod or three-rod versions, each kit offers plenty of versatility. These kits feature two buzzers bars, four banksticks and a pair of Cross Bars. Each buzzer bar can be fished goalpost style or on single sticks and the Cross Bars are a handy bracing device to convert any goalpost set-up into a freestanding pod. The quality of the Wychwood bankware is extremely high, with chunky thumbscrews, quality screw threads and a lovely matt finish. The Cross Bars are simply a pair of length-adjustable braces that hold a goalpost set-up in place when you’re fishing on solid ground, or just want a bit more rigidity. The Wide version has a classical ‘oversized’ chunkiness to it, while the Slims are narrower and more lightweight.
