Not Barbed Or Barbless!

With Pallatrax’s Gripz, there is now a third option. Here are all the details...

Embedded within Pallatrax is a philosophy to be environmentally sound and to be as innovative as possible. It’s clear in their product range. From the lead-weight alternatives of the Stonze to the patented high-tech Gamma main lines, their products are anything but run of the mill—especially the Gripz hooks…

Not barbed or barbless?! Explain…
Essentially, where a barb might normally be, they’re ridged. Those grooves provide the grip needed to keep the hook in place during a battle, but don’t have the potentially destructive impact of a full barb. They are easily removed from the fish’s mouth once your hooklink is slack, just like a barbless hook.

Are they just a gimmick?
No, the Gripz have been around for a number of years and have firmly established themselves as a viable ‘third way’. A host of fisheries at home and abroad advocate their use and they’ve won independent accolades like the International Green Apple Award for their fish-safety benefits.

Are the grooves just added to cheap hooks?
No, these have been designed from the ground up and have been made like a high-performance hook regardless of the ‘Gripz’ element. They’re made exclusively for Pallatrax in Japan with the highest quality wire and are hand-packed in the UK to add an extra element of quality control.

How about the sharpness?
Pallatrax say they use ‘Cutting Point’ technology to get a surgically sharp point that keeps its sharpness even after multiple captures.

And the range?
Just like you’d expect from any other high-end hook, the Gripz are available in Wide Gape, Straight Point, Chod and Curve Shank options with sizes ranging from 2 to 16. There are also catfish hooks and trebles available and all hooks are packed in fully recyclable wallets. They come in packs of 10 and retail for £5.95.
