Now With Added '+'

We’ve long been fans of Nash’s Siren’s bite alarm range. Pleasing to the eye, great features, a complete range to compliment any wallet, and now there’s a ‘+’ version of their highly acclaimed R3 model. Here’s all the deets!

It’s hard to imagine the banks without them now, but when the Nash Siren debuted in 2010, it was met—if we’re being kind—with very “mixed” reviews. Unlike anything that had gone before, incredibly its circular-shaped design wasn’t its main talking point—that was its ability to measure the speed at which the line travelled through the sensor. But fast-forward a decade and with a refined design and bulletproof tech gubbins, the Siren family has grown to become one of the UK’s most-loved bite alarms. From the top-end R4 down to the S5 Digital (just £16.99 a head!), with the R2 and R3 models sitting firmly in the middle, it’s a collection of alarms which fit all bank accounts.

Hang on, the R3s have been out for ages…
They have indeed, but this isn’t the old R3—Nash has given this 2022 model a ‘+’ badge, which means it comes with some rather clever and neat bits of technology.

Go on then…
Whilst the R3+ comes packaged in that same iconic and instantly recognisable style from the 2017 launched R3, that’s where the similarities end. First up the ‘+’ version has a push button variable LED function which allows indicator and alarm set-ups to be customised and changed instantly. You can also colour-match them to the Siren Night Glo Bobbins and Swing Arms for ultimate visual indication!

That’s a nice feature! Does the receiver mimic the heads too?
They sure do! Whichever colour you choose on the alarm head will accurately reproduce on the receiver. And whilst we’re talking about the receiver—and no, we’re not suggesting you fish over 400 metres from your rods—it is worth saying the signal is powerful enough to perform and reliably work where challenging terrain and atmospheric conditions cripple the performance of inferior remote systems on some other alarms.

How do the rollers work?
Using the same concept from the original 2010 Siran, the R3+ features the critically acclaimed ‘Siren Speed Sensing’. It screens out false indications from wind, undertow and drifting weed and only sounds to fish activity in the swim. You can say goodbye to bobbin creep disturbing you in the early house when the conditions change or weed builds up on your line.

Does it have any other clever features I should know about?
Yes—plenty—and while some may not be groundbreaking, it is the bulletproof design and manufacturing that sets them apart from the rest. So here goes: one touch mute function, ultra high-vis pulsing latching, LED integrated line guard, integrated removable rubberised snag ears, super long battery life (it really is impressive in the original R3 so we’re guessing it’ll be the same in this ‘+’ model) and each head is supplied with a protective PVC case.

So how can I buy them?
Nash have packaged these up just as they do with all the models in the Siren family: individually (heads [£129.99] and receiver) or in 2 (£329.99), 3 (£429.99) and 4 (£529.99) rod presentation sets which includes the receiver. Plus, all heads and receivers which are registered with Nash are offered an extended 2 year no quibble guarantee (not that you’ll never need it: these things are bombproof!).
