Ladywood Lakes

Definitely one to watch out for in the the future

Ladywood Lake Fishery is a complex of two lakes, both created in 2004 when land excavated for gravel was allowed to fill with water. Both lakes then remained empty of fish until 2010, when each was stocked, one as a general coarse fishing lake and the other as a specimen carp water. The Specimen Lake that now covers some 10-acres boasts an impressive stocking of over 650 carp, sourced from reputable fish farmer, Andy Parker, owner of Handycarp. Many fully scaled, zip linear, double linear and leather carp have been included, as well as some cracking common carp to provide a huge contrast of fish and scale patterns from each and every capture. This superb stocking of carp has shown excellent growth rates since their introduction, with many fish now over twenty-pounds. To further enhance the stock 30lb fish were introduced in the winter of 2011/12.

An extensive planting programme was also undertaken with over 75 lilies being planted, as well as Norfolk Reed, Yellow Flag Iris and sedges to encourage the fish into the marginal shelf. Many trees including willows, alder, oaks and birch have also been planted around the lake to bring the old pit to life. To increase complex security, some 2,000 blackthorn bushes were planted around the perimeter to keep out the unwanted.

Feature-wise, the lake has depths down to 22ft, as well as bars, gullies and weedbeds. The lake has two main bodies of water and a wide channel linking the two, the ‘back bay’ is slightly shallower. To improve access around the lake there is also a track to allow anglers the ability to drop off their tackle close to their chosen swim, and then drive to the nearest car park. Complete with otter fencing, Ladywood Lake Fishery will certain have a bright future, as well as being a present-day carp angling pleasure.
