Selby Lake One
One of the best day ticket fisheries in the north of England
One venue that has proved very popular in the north because of the quality fishing on offer is The Selby 3 Lakes complex, especially their well-established day ticket, Lake One. The old, four-acre lake has matured beautifully and now boasts gorgeous, picturesque surroundings for the anglers to simply lose themselves in.
The lake features a long island running up the middle of the water and you can get onto this from one side of the bank but no fishing is permitted from it – it is only used for baiting up and looking for fish. There are four dedicated carp swims on either side of the island, all of which produce equal amounts of carp when the conditions are right. There are other swims inbetween but these have been built with the coarse angler in mind. The lake boasts a whole range of features including gravel, silt, overhanging trees and snaggy areas, all perfect for presenting a bait. The fish do like to get in close at times so being quiet, accurate and ensuring you cast with as little disturbance as possible will help you fool these stunning carp.
No magic rigs or bait are needed to fool these fish, just a good attention to detail when it comes to baiting: a good tight area of good quality bait coupled with simple rigs with top quality components will always do the trick. Zig Rigs and surface presentations are renowned for doing well during the spring and summer months (especially in the spring when the buds are appearing on the trees).
All night fishing needs to be pre-booked but with day-only angling you can turn up and pay on the bank and all anglers under the age of 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
Facilities on-site include a porta-loo which is cleaned and emptied on a very regular basis, a burger van that is situated just outside the fishery and this is open from Monday to Saturday every week in the warmer weather.
