Own Tel's landing net

What do you get when you mix all of Terry Hearn’s years of humongous carp-catching and the vast designing and manufacturing heritage of ESP? The perfect landing net.

ESP and Terry Hearn have always been at the heart of the carp fishing tackle development here in the UK. They were the duo who created the first Chod Rig-related products some 16-years-ago: Stiff Bristle Filament, Stiff Riggers and co.; they were the ones who designed all the components to create the first properly safe helicopter set-up; and between them they produced one of the fastest selling rods of all time: The Terry Hearn MK1 way back in 2001.

Terry’s return to the brand, the deadly duo have a fistful of new products launching this spring, including an updated range of rods and this, Tel’s first ever landing net.

The spreader block is produced using a special glass-filled engineering polymer, which isn’t just ultra-lightweight but incredibly strong

Having captured some of (if not pretty much all of them) the most iconic carp in the country, Terry sure does have a good understanding of what’s required from a landing net, and for him it starts with extra long 44” (113cm) arms which in this case are made from a high-modulus, ultra light and rigid carbon and feature machined and curved anodised aluminium fittings along with ultra fine sacking to prevent the arms from poking through the mesh overtime. Loaded onto these is a 1.22m deep, super soft olive green mesh and thanks to this depth of mesh, it makes it perfect for retaining big carp in the margins whilst you get your rod back out.

The spreader block is produced using a special glass-filled engineering polymer, which isn’t just ultra-lightweight but also incredibly strong. This is then securely pinned and bonded into the handle so it won’t twist like it can do with screw-in spreader blocks, and finally there’s a discrete isotope slot.

Machined and curved anodised aluminium fittings at the ends of each arm

The handle itself is 6ft (1.8m) and is made from a high-modulus carbon so it’s exceptionally light and rigid, and thanks to a slim reverse taper it also helps to stiffen the net up even more. ESP has then given it a chunky woven finish to match the new Terry Hearn Rods (full review next month), along with an ergonomic textured grip and the trademark ESP red whippings and logo on the handle and butt cap.

Tel’s net features a 1.22m deep, super soft olive green mesh with 8mm holes

And thanks to the mind-blowing amount of 30’s and 40’s Terry’s caught during the 12-month testing period, you don’t need to just take our word when it comes to how good this landing net really is…
