Prologic Commander Bedchairs
We take a close look at the bedchairs that the likes of Adam Penning re-lie on (get it?)
With help of ‘Ology magazine diarist, Adam Penning, Prologic has set its sights on reclaiming a chunk of the UK carp market. We’re sure that a man with the pure angling and product-development experience that Adam has will help enormously with that aim. Now, you’d think that it’d be easy for a firm with so many different product lines (Prologic makes terminal tackle, bivvies, clothing, alarms, luggage etc…) to take their eye off the ball in some areas, however, we’d heard great things about the range, so how do the bedchairs in the Prologic stable measure up to the competition?
All the beds in the Prologic Commander collection lie totally flat1. Commander Classic
The most affordable of the bedchairs looks like a pretty sound investment to us. In fact, it reminds us just how far bedchair technology has come in the last couple of decades! For a little over a ton, you can bag yourself a light, sturdy, comfortable bed that simply won’t let you down. And even though it’s the most compact of the Commander beds, the Classic is still rated up to 140kg, which is an ample 22 stone!
So, what do you get for your money? Well, for starters you’ve got a bed that’s upholstered in fabric that’s both waterproof and breathable, which is a lovely touch and makes the bed very easy to clean. The guys at Prologic could easily have kept that tech for the more expensive beds, but rolling it out across the range is the right thing to have done for us. It folds out flat, has six adjustable legs, swivel mud feet and weighs in at a tiny 9.5kg. “GIMME”: £109.99
Commander Flat
This one’s a bigger bed, with a few more features than the Classic, yet only weighs a few kilos more, which is impressive. It’s bang-on for the guy or gal that likes to be able to spread out in bed, with 5cm more width than the Classic. It has a seventh leg, which fits to the very end of the foot section, so even if you and your mates cram onto the bed for a social, you’re not in danger of bending the frame.
Just like the other beds in the Commander range it benefits from the innovative waterproof and breathable fabric as well as subtle camo rip-stop padding around the outside of the frame. All the legs and feet do what they should to help level you off, and if you don’t like the new-wave flat beds, you can use the adjustable legs that the top end to give yourself a slight incline! “GIMME”: £199.99
Commander Flat Wide
The big daddy of the range is, shall we say, spacious. It’s rated to a massive 25 stone, so you might even be able to cram two people onto it! It’s got a full 15cm width advantage over the Classic, but you do have to push an extra 1.5kg as a result, which actually doesn’t sound too punishing! Rather than a single added leg like the Flat, the Flat Wide has two more, boasting eight adjustable legs. That makes for a super-stable night’s sleep, on even quite uneven terrain. Once more, the cutting edge fabrics allow for the bed to be cleaned easily, and the breathable fabrics make for a more hygienic sleeping arrangement!
Even given the extra surface area and metalwork, the Flat Wide comes in well and truly in the mid-price category, which makes it a very strong contender for your money indeed. Extra comfort doesn’t usually come cheap, but here it seems that it does! “GIMME”: £229.99; prologicfishing.com
