2 Dry reccing
Recce the lake without worrying about those cloudy skies. The 60-inch umbrella from outdoor masters, Fortis, comes in two styles… Option 1: a single layer DPM shell with a windproof canopy to help prevent inverting. Option 2: dual-layered, with black on the outside and DPM on the inside. The beefed-up frame, fibreglass shaft and ergonomic, non-slip handle will withstand extreme weather conditions. The rain won’t know what hit it.

3 Hit N Run additions
Dynamite is known for rolling beautiful pop-ups - heck, they produced the first commercially available fluoros way back in 2002. But last year’s launch of the Hit N Run range, designed in cahoots with Rob Hughes, took things to the next level. The pop-up line-up now includes two sizes - 12 and 15mm - and in the following colours: Yellow, White, Red and Pink, and there’s now three wafters - Pink, Yellow and White - all in 14mm.

4 Wychwood Bags
Don’t just toss your waders in some cheap nylon bag. Wychwood’s simple and elegant EVA Wader Bag features welded seams (read: rodent- and water-proof), strong handles and robust zips with plastic fobs. There are another 11 different bags in the collection, ranging from terminal tackle-sized bags, right up to foil-lined cool bags and a semi-rigid yet collapsible water bucket. We trialled some of these on our recent French trip and were most impressed.

6 Light by powerful
Developed by the people who brought you the astonishingly powerful Atom powerpack, the Ultralite is everything you wanted a head torch to be. Lightweight, easy to carry, fully adjustable and the brightest beam your angling pal has ever been blinded by thanks to the XPE LED which kicks out 450 lumens. It features a motion sensor, meaning you can turn it on and off by simply waving your hand under the sensor. It’s fully rechargeable and pumps out 2.5hrs of the highest brightness. Weight isn’t an issue either - at under 60g you probably won’t notice it on your head.
