Bucking the trend

JRC’s 2015 Extreme TX is much more than just a pram-hood. It represents the next generation of their legendary TX shelters and now packs even more features

The words quality, reliability and ‘very-well-priced’ very rarely go together. And in this day and age you often get what you pay for: go expensive and it tends to last; go cheap and it doesn’t – simple. However, after a year in development, numerous samples and hundreds of hours testing, JRC’s Extreme TX Bivvy seems to be bucking this historic trend.

Packed with features you’d expect to find on a bivvy which has twice the retail price, it’s the only pram-hood shelter which comes with this many features that CARPology.net can think of, and recommend, where you’ll get quality bankside housing for under £300. Incredible.

Although it’s anywhere between £100 and £150 cheaper than their competitors, JRC haven’t skimped on the pate. It’s created from a two rib, two-joint pole pram-hood system, with the addition of a third pole to create a handy front porch. This new version of the legendary TX series offers a zip-off front panel, three different door settings and front and rear vents which are protected by anti-leak storm baffles.

It’s available in two size options: a compact one-man and a lavish two-man and is made from JRC’s brand-new and totally insane fabric: 20000mm HH Hydra-Tex. And remarkably, for its retail price, you’d expect there to be some hidden extra, but we can squash those doubts right now by revealing it comes complete with a long-life HD PVC groundsheet, heavy-duty zip carry bag and pegs!
