Carbon Loaded Reels From Sonik!

Sonik’s latest reel is a skinny featherlight

1. Looks to die for
From the glossy dark wooden handle knob to the raw-carbon matt finish of the body and rotor, these reels look the business. And that’s before you’ve even considered that distinctive honeycomb spool. Yes, it’s a style that exists elsewhere in the angling world, but Sonik have removed more material than any other reel, while retaining strength thanks to the hexagonal shape of the cut outs.

2. Premium materials
As the reel’s name suggests, there’s plenty of carbon at work here. The body and rotor is made from the stuff, while the matt-black handle is constructed from aluminium that’s then anodised. The overall result is a compact reel that’s tough and lightweight. It weighs just 510g, which will certainly help balance out stalking or surface setups.

3. Internal strength
The VaderX Pro Carbon has a gear ratio of 4.6 turns of the spool for every single crank of the handle and eight internal ball bearings for a silky-smooth feel. Wormshaft gearing also provides a solid backbone to all the cranking you’re likely to do over the reel’s lifetime and provides strength under the power of a surging fish.

4. External features
The precise Quick-Torque carbon drag system is operated from the front-mounted dial and gives you instant control when setting the clutch in readiness for a take and during any subsequent battle. The floating rotor line guard stops line getting trapped under the spool and there are two spring-loaded line clips to aid with accurate casting and feature finding.

5. Complete package
Coming under the very popular and highly regarded VaderX sub-brand, this reel delivers quality performance at a competitive price of just £119.99. It has all the features a modern carp reel needs and, thanks to its compact size and weight, is ideal for use on shorter rods or in stalking situations.
