Exquisitely designed, executed and presented, these carbon pods from Century will no doubt have stopped you in your tracks as you flicked through the pages of this magazine.
Founded by Simon Chilcott in 1980s, Century are heralded for their UK-built rods. The company motto states they ‘live to push the boundaries of performance’ and they provide carbon technology to leading aerospace businesses and Formula One teams, so they are about as far removed from Far-East importers as it’s possible to get. When they make a rod pod, they don’t cut corners.

Incredibly, this complete one-piece version weighs in at just a fraction of one kilogram! These versatile systems under the Stealth banner are made with carbon uprights and horizontals, topped with anodised aluminium fittings. The difference between the one-piece and the two-piece is the central bar, which is split into two sections on the two-piece model for a smaller pack-away size (14ins as opposed to the one-piece’s 27.5ins length).
The contents of the bundle, regardless of which you model you go for, includes three 9ins Stealth Chunky banksticks with stainless-steel points, plus three more of the same at 12ins long. You get a front bracing bar that measures 11ins and a rear one that comes in at 10ins wide, plus two stabiliser fittings. Everything is housed in a sumptuous bespoke roll-up carry bag bearing the classic Century logo.
The versatility of these products is evident in the way they can be set-up. They can be erected as a standard pod - with the bracing bars low to the ground or higher up, the choice is yours - or used individually as single sticks. The stabilisers can also be deployed to add rigidity when fishing locked up or on tricky ground.
All the components are manufactured by Century here in Britain using high-spec carbon and aluminium, so you know the quality is going to be as good as it gets. But these Stealth pods aren’t just about functionality, they are spellbindingly attractive to look at it. The combination of lightweight carbon tubes meeting sleek anodised aluminium fittings works perfectly, and the quality control is evident at every join and each fitment.
