Century Stealth Graphene Reinforced Spod & Marker Rod
Top-end performance shouldn’t stop with your general angling rods. Your spod and marker rods should equal them in power and looks...
Since its launch in January 2017, the groundbreaking Century Stealth Graphene Reinforced Carp Rod range has instantly become one of the most desired rods on the market and their new complementing Spod and Marker Rod certainly looks to be equally as tasty! We caught up with Century’s Dave Springall to get the lowdown on the two new rods.
The Big Questions
So, Dave, what’s the deal?
“Well, it’s a pretty simple concept really. We wanted to produce the very best spod and marker rod that we could to complement what is undoubtedly one of, if not the best rod currently available. Most rod manufacturers, ourselves included, in the past have released premium rods and then accompanied them with feature finding and bait delivery rods made with slightly lower specifications and slightly cheaper materials in order to keep the price point as keen as possible. With this rod we wanted our customers, who demand the best, to have the best. A spod and marker set-up that looks, feels and performs just as well as their fishing rods do.”
So no corners cut we assume?
“None at all. These rods boast the full spec that the flagship Stealth GR rods have become known for in the last eighteen months or so. The carbons and Nobel prize winning graphene reinforced resin system is present in these rods, exactly as is in the fishing rods themselves. The benefits of these really come into their own with real workhorse rods such as spods and markers as the resulting significant weight reduction in these rods makes much easier work of heavy repetitive casting and the sheer strength that the inclusion of graphene provides makes them virtually bombproof, even under the heavy stresses of modern long-range angling. Of course the addition of our now standard Autoclave curing process and a further upgraded version of our Anti Twist Technology ensure both unrivalled accuracy and longevity. In short, the technology remains the same as the fishing rods themselves, just stepped up somewhat to handle heavier loads.”
Impressive! What about the build?
“Boringly again, I’m afraid it remains the same as the carp rods. No compromises at all. The same 1k-1k lightweight finish all the way through to the tip ring, 50-16mm gunmetal PVD-coated titanium SiC ring set with a 16mm anti-tangle tip guide, custom matt black ALPS reel seat, matching black aluminium laser engraved butt cap finished with plain black whippings and the signature Stealth steel grey tippets. Both are available in 12ft lengths only.”
So just a perfect match then really? Anything else too add?
“Exactly! The marker rod is something that we actually went through a few samples of to get right. We found a way of really reducing the overall diameter in the butt section without compromising power or performance in any way. It took a while but it was well worth the toil as the finished product is as sleek as it is powerful. Oh, and it has depth markers whipped on at depths of 1ft and 1.5ft.”
We have to finish by asking you about the all-important performance?
“As you would expect, there really is nothing like them. Both are comfortably 200+ yard rods in the right hands and handle 5oz leads and heavy bait rockets with ease. The massive weight reduction makes building tip speed a breeze, even for the more intermediate caster, and both rods are super easy to load and cast even with the huge power that they both possess. The tip section of the marker rod also provides a really unique experience with feel and has been designed in such a way that feedback with braided lines is really something special. These rods are ideal for all existing Stealth owners or simply for someone in the market for a premium spod and marker set-up.”
