Cyprinus Maxus Bivvy

Cyprinus, the dotcom masters, have a new home for you this month and whilst it’s big and bold, the price tag is small and wife-friendly…

Six-months ago, Cyprinus’s owner, Andrew Train flicked on the MacBook and up popped an image of a bivvy on the retina screen. He looked up and glared. “Can one bivvy fulfill every angler’s demands?” he quizzed, rising to his feet. “Our new Maxus can: it’s a large two-man or a ultra luxury one-man which comes with three infill front options and an inner capsule to give you unbeatable comfort. And then there’s the price – but more on that later.” We looked at one another, grinned and then applauded. One-nil Cyprinus.

Six-months on and we finally get to have a proper play with the dotcom business’s latest bankside shelter: the Maxus 2 Man Bivvy. First impressions are “it’s very Cyprinus” – and by that we mean big, well made and feature-packed. Train was right with his sizing – there’s ample space for two anglers, but if you like to have acres of space, then it’ll be the ultimate for a single occupant.

The Maxus almost reverts back to the original pram-hood design of a central boss
It’s very versatile

The waterproof outer skin of the Maxus is made from the brand’s new ‘Hydro-Tec’ material which benefits from some clever intelligent-membrane technology and is 100% waterproof and breathable so there’s no more condensation. And as for proof to its ability to block the wet, it comes with a 12000mm Hydrostatic Head rating.

As you’ll see from the pictures, it almost reverts back to the original pram-hood design – three main ribs/one central connection block, but this model comes with a build-in porch rib – which along with providing maximum protection and stability, it also results in more headroom and versatility.

It’s not only big, it’s tailor-able too: three infill front options means you’ll be warm and enclosed when it’s snowing; protected but be able to see when it’s raining; and cool when it’s roaringly hot. And then there’s the inner capsule and zip-in groundsheet which means zero bugs will ever be able to bite or crawl across you.

The good news doesn’t end there either: it also comes complete with all support poles, pegs and – get this – an overwrap!
Now for the price tag. Before Train even mentions it, our written notes include a big ‘£700!’ with a circle around it. Just as we’re about to pose the question he answers it for us. “All of this should set you back £689.98 but we’re currently running it at a special offer rate of just £339.99,” he proudly states. We quickly scribble it out and applaud. Again. Well done, Cyprinus, we’re thoroughly impressed.
