Fox Warrior 6 Leg

From the longest serving makers of bedchairs come this: a six-leg, totally flat, super comfortable, budget priced winner

When a brand has been selling bedchairs for over 30 years, they obviously know what they’re doing, right? Right. This year brings us to the thirty-second anniversary since Fox founder, Cliff Fox launched the original, purpose-made carp angler’s bedchair: the KM Bedchair – a sold-in-a-kit form bed which retailed for £45.00. He pushed the boundaries back then, and now, in 2015, his team of innovative designers and field-testers are doing it again with this: the new Warrior 6 Leg Bedchair – a top-spec bed at an unrivalled value-for-money price.

The big questions

What’s so special about it then?
It ticks all three of the must-have/must-do boxes: value, features and quality. It retails for just £109.99; it’s light, comfy and lies totally flat; and it’s made to the same high spec as of all the products in the ‘Warrior’ range (the rods in that collection have won more awards than any other).

Not only is the Warrior 6 incredibly light, it’s compact too

So talk me through what I get…
The Warrior 6 Leg follows in the same cam-less, fold flat design footsteps as all Fox beds, and this means you get to use the full width of the bed without getting dead shoulders and arms. And on top of this frame is a firm, padded mattress with a large extra-filled skirt.

All six legs are fully adjustable

It does look comfy, but how big is it?
Opened up, it measures 203cm long (just 5cms shorter than Fox’s most premium bed, the FX Flatliner), 82cm wide (only 12cm less than the FX) and 33-40cm high, and where the Warrior 6 Leg excels over its peers is its weight: a mere 9kgs, some 3.9kgs lighter than the FX.

There is masses of padding

What’s it like when folded up?
Compact! The simple strap and buckle system Fox have used allows the bed to be folded away in a very compact manner for easy transportation to and from a venue and swim. Will it fit in all boots? Yes. How big is it? Just 82 x 82 x 21cm.

All the figures look good… And finally, what about the legs?
They’re very nice! Each is extendable and feature swivelling mud feed to ensure you can set the bed nice and level when on uneven ground. In short: you’re going to have a light barrow, a heavy wallet and you’re going to get a great night’s sleep.

Like all the Fox beds, there’s no cam wheels on this model and it lies completely flat

Also new from Fox this month...

A new ‘base camp’ tent, some special new braid and a camo shockleader which will have you out-casting Mark Hutchinson

Royale Cook Tent Station
News flash! If you pack and move like Dave Lane or Terry Hearn, the new Fox Royale Cook Tent Station clearly isn’t for you. Obvs. But if you’re an angler who partakes in long sessions or regularly fishes venues where you’re camped up in the same swim for the whole session, it really is for you.

Designed to create a ‘base camp’ environment for preparing and eating food whilst socialising with friends, the Cook Tent comes with three front door options: clear PVC, mozzy and solid – and this final one can be converted with two extra long banksticks into a porch area for extra space. A mozzy mesh panel at the rear aids airflow inside, whilst the zip-in groundsheet keeps mud, dust and bugs at bay.

Supplied with guy ropes plus heavy-duty pegs and carry bag and measures 220(H) x 220(W) x 150cm (L).

Trans Khaki Tapered Mono Leader
Serious camouflage on a lakebed of many unknown colour tones requires a seriously clever camo pattern, just like Fox’s Trans Khaki – a colour blend derived from Rob Hughes’s many hours of diving. Following in the hugely successful footsteps of their current Trans Khaki range of products (think: leaders, lead clips and fluorocarbon main lines), this autumn sees them add these Tapered Mono Leaders to the range. Designed to take the ‘shock’ of a big cast and prevent crack-offs and as the name suggests, the leader is tapered so the line gradually becomes thicker as you wind it onto the spool. Available in 12-30lb and 16-35lb.
“GIMME”: £7.99

Horizon Semi Buoyant Braid
Along with the usual highly abrasion resistant nature and high knot strength of braid, this new zero-stretch braided main line is semi-buoyant making it ideal for fishing at extreme long-range, keeping it above any underwater obstacles or when fishing over heavy weed (as it won’t sink into it). It comes in the same Dark Camo which Fox use on their Submerge sinking braid, and thanks to its low diameter and very supple nature it makes this new offering a dream to cast with. Available on 300m spools and in two breaking stains: 25lb (0.20mm) and 50lb (0.30mm). It’s ‘Rainbow Lake’ tried and tested so spool up with complete confidence.
