Fox's new Ranger Pod!

One of the Essex brand’s biggest selling items of all time, the Ranger Pod, gets an upgrade for 2015 – a very versatile one at that…

There aren’t many ways to improve a classic like Fox’s Ranger Rod Pod, but it’s been done. The design and consultant teams have merged over the past 12-months to create this, a new, updated MK2 version of what was already one of Fox’s most popular products in their vast range.

In its Quad Pod style

And with 120cm front legs in place

The MK2 will be available in both a 3-Rod and 4-Rod version and benefits from many of the great features of the original Ranger but with the added benefit of a number of improvements that help to make this one of the most versatile rod pods ever released.

First up is a new and improved leg locking mechanism. Unlike its predecessor, this new version doesn’t require the leg (which are now stronger) to be fully unscrewed to change the angle (only 2.5 rotations now needed), of which there are now six, not three like on the previous model. It also comes with longer legs as standard: 40, 45 and 120cm; four karabiner mounting points to tie/weigh down the pod; new ‘Double Cam Levers’ to make adjustment that little bit easier; and the fittings are now all-brass threaded so there’s zero chance of oxidisation.

The Ranger MK2 features an adjustable central bar

You can also adjust the goal posts

Other improvements include the adjustable leg mechanism

And whilst all of these new additions is very welcoming news, it’s the MK2’s ability to be converted from a standard Ranger Pod leg configuration to a Quad Pod configuration (four-legged tri-pod) by simply moving the legs from each end into the middle of the frame that really grabs you by the balls and makes you sit up and take notice.

The raft of updates don’t stop there either. New black tubes and framework has been used throughout for extra stability and the redesigned carry case which now features a full length zip and larger front storage pocket, is sure to make pod-lovers salivate.
